About Hamiliton
The Hamilton Foundation was founded over 35 years ago as a 501C3 nonprofit foundation. The foundation has taken up various causes over the years and is currently focusing on solutions to our growing national fiscal crisis. It was Alexander Hamilton who believed that “The best way of determining disputes and of investigating truth, is by descending to elementary principles. Any other method may only bewilder and misguide the understanding.”
Today, the battle for public opinion is fought through the media and primarily contributed by two political parties with diametrically opposed philosophies of governing. The problem is the divide is an equal divide in that we now live in what is basically a 50-50 country. The party with a slim majority can now dictate their own philosophy of government to close to half of the country. This makes it very difficult for the majority party to accept any input from the minority party. The consequence is that our government has become pretty much nonfunctional. As America approaches its 250th birthday it has become widely divided and approaching being irrevocably broken.
In 1787 our nation’s future indeed looked grim. There really wasn’t a United States as the states couldn’t really agree on anything other than toppling King George and the English. There really wasn’t a government and Washington wasn’t even paying its soldiers. As Alexander Hamilton put it. “We have neither troops nor treasury nor government.” If credit scores were available at the time America’s would have been zero.
Fast forward to today, and although we still somehow have a relatively high credit rating it is no longer triple A (AAA). Our national debt is now over $34 trillion dollars and each year as the government takes in less than it spends this number increases. At our current rate of annual deficits our debt will overcome our nation’s ability to pay within 50 years. America might never make it to its 300th birthday. As a nonpartisan and nonprofit organization, the Hamilton Foundation is working with other organizations to help curb the expansion of our debt and help put America on a path to better fiscal health and sustainability.
